ZF cans plans for new US gearbox plant

Tim Evans, from Georgia’s Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, told the Gainesville Times newspaper that while ZF would not go ahead with the new plant, the company would undertake an expansion at its existing plant in Gainesville. The paper said ZF had originally planned to purchase 23 acres of property in a nearby industrial park for just over $US1.18 million ($A1.79 million). The decision not to go ahead with the new plant comes after an announcement from ZF of plans to lay off an unspecified number of staff at its Gainesville plant. The newspaper said ZF cited sluggish sales to its customers in the heavy construction equipment and automotive businesses.
