WA’s first solar power station

A proposed $1.3 million station, at the old Carnarvon landfill site, was launched by EMC Solar. The station, which will have an initial capacity of 120 kilowatts, is likely to be operational from mid-2011 and is expected to have a 510kW capacity. It will use advanced solar photovoltaic technology, claimed to last 30-40 years. The first stage will consist of 180 frames of 16 solar panels and will be Australia’s first large-scale built, owned and operated solar power station.EMC expects the plant will reduce greenhouse gases by 162,000 tonnes, and reduce diesel and fossil fuel consumption by about 81,000 litres.
