The contract includes the design and construction of the new station near the Beauty World shopping centre and associated tunnels, according to the Straits Times. The paper said the Beauty World station would be located along Upper Bukit Timah Road and would double as a civil defence shelter. Construction is scheduled to start soon and is targeted for completion in 2015. According to Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, when fully completed the DTL will enhance the connectivity of the Rapid Transit System network, facilitating direct travel from the northwestern and eastern areas of Singapore to the central business district and Marina Bay. The DTL is projected to carry more than half a million passengers each day when in full operation.
