*UPDATED* Vic company wins major Singapore contract

McConnell Dowell said the work consisted of the design and construction of two MRT 1100m bored tunnels with an internal diameter of 5.8m, two cross passages, and 135m of cut and cover tunnels.The company said the work also included the design and construction of the new Beauty World MRT underground station, requiring station entrances, subway links, architectural finishes and external landscaping.The station, located at Upper Bukit Timah Road near Jurong Kechil, will also double as a Civil Defence shelter.Construction is scheduled to start soon and is targeted for completion in July 2015. According to Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, when fully completed the Downtown Line (DTL) will enhance the connectivity of the Rapid Transit System network, facilitating direct travel from the northwestern and eastern areas of Singapore to the central business district and Marina Bay. The DTL is projected to carry more than half a million passengers each day when in full operation.
