United Group, Thiess John Holland finalise $620m Airport Link alliance

The work to be carried out by the alliance will comprise the mechanical, electrical and civil works relating to tunnel fit-out at the Airport Link project. UGL chief executive officer Richard Leupen said the finalisation of the agreement reflected the company’s push toward alliance-style commercial structures. “We are also working on North South Bypass Tunnel, construction of which is well underway,” Leupen said.UGL said today the mechanical and electrical engineering component of the alliance works at Airport Link have an estimated value of $452 million, implying Thiess John Holland will carry out the remaining $168 million worth of civil construction work. The works to be carried out by include installation of systems for ventilation, smoke extraction, traffic control, fire detection, power reticulation, lighting, radio re-broadcast, drainage, incident detection and security.The completed Airport Link will comprise a 6.7km toll road, which is to be predominantly underground. It will connect Brisbane’s North South Bypass Tunnel, Inner City Bypass and local road networks at Bowen Hills to northern and east-west arterial roads. Work on the project has already begun and is scheduled for completion in 2012.
