Two of the men are believed to have been working for a Nakheel subsidiary called the Dubai Waterfront Project, and the allegations are understood to involve millions of dollars in consultancy payments from Queensland property development company Sunland to Nakheel.According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, the three men are Sunland Group architect David Brown, Nakheel senior executive Marcus Lee and Lee’s Nakheel colleague Matthew Joyce, a former managing director of the Dubai Waterfront Project. The newspaper said the three men are among 13 Australians under arrest in jail over property-related allegations. In a statement released to the Australian Securities Exchange on February 20, the Sunland Group said no allegations had been made against Sunland in relation to its activities in Dubai. However, Sunland said it has provided information to the investigating authorities. The newspaper said United Arab Emirates law allows suspects to be held indefinitely without charge, and that the three executives are of particular concern to lawyers and the Australian embassy because of the seriousness of the allegations and the uncertainty of their future.
