Report on Victoria’s waste management system found key agencies failed to manage the sector

A report on Victoria’s waste management system has been released and found that several key agencies in the state have failed to effectively manage the sector, which is what led to “significant amounts of recyclables ending up in landfill and increased stockpiling posing unacceptable risks to public health and the environment”.

National study gives detailed breakdown of food waste in Australia  

A national food waste project has found that in 2016-17, Australia produced 7.3 million tonnes of food waste across the supply and consumption chain. Of this, 2.5 million (34 per cent) was created in homes, 2.3m tonnes (31 per cent) was created in primary production and 1.8m tonnes (25 per cent) was produced in the manufacturing sector.
