Training courses help the management of construction waste in NSW

In response to the release of standards for managing construction waste in NSW by the NSW EPA, HSE Risk has developed online training courses.

The courses are:

NSW C&D Waste Facility Environmental Laws & Licence Awareness Training

Who is this Course for?

This course is for personnel performing duties at NSW C&D waste facilities as required by the NSW EPA Standards including operators, managers and supervisors.

Purpose

The training provides a general overview and a learning and development platform to enable operators of C&D waste facilities to meet the training requirements of the Standards (Standard 1.3.1.1.a and 1.3.1.1.b) and to assist C&D waste facilities personnel in understanding the key requirements of the POEO Act, Waste Regulations and the Environment Protection Licence.

NSW EPA Standards for Managing Construction Waste Awareness Training

Who is this Course for?

This course is for personnel performing duties at NSW C&D waste facilities as required by the NSW EPA Standards including operators, managers and supervisors.

Purpose 

The purpose of the training is to provide a learning and development platform to enable operators of C&D waste facilities to meet the training requirements of the Standards (Standard 1.3.1.1.c) and to assist C&D waste facilities personnel in understanding the key requirements of the Standards.

NSW EPA Standards for Managing Construction Waste Awareness Training Online is $129. Average completion time is 60 minutes.

Collaborators on the course content are:

  • David White – A recognised waste industry compliance practitioner with 30 years’ experience including 8 years managing EPL compliance for seven separate facilities for the Benedict Industries Group.
  • Henry Moore – Formerly NSW EPA Manager Waste Strategy and Innovation, Henry’s experience as an environmental regulator and policy-maker provides a detailed understanding of the NSW waste regulatory framework and EPA policies relating to waste regulation and compliance.
  • John Whitehouse – John is a Solicitor in private practice specialising in environment and planning law with 20 years’ experience and has lectured at Macquarie University in Environmental Law. He had been the Assistant Director of the NSW Department of Environment and Planning and Director of the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

A course has also been created for asbestos awareness – Asbestos Awareness Training Online

Who is this Course for?

The Asbestos Awareness Training Online is for workers and supervisors whose normal work duties present a reasonable likelihood of disturbing or coming into contact with asbestos.

Once successfully completed, learners will be issued with a Certificate of Completion for the online Asbestos Awareness Training for personnel course. Certificates can be downloaded by students in your account.

This course does not result in a Statement of Attainment for 10675NAT (or equivalent required in the ACT) or CPCCDE3014A.

The course has been developed to give workers and supervisors the general knowledge they need to identify and work safely with asbestos or asbestos containing material (ACM). It also assists employers in meeting their Work Health and Safety Legislation obligations in providing training in asbestos awareness to workers and supervisors. The purpose of asbestos awareness training is to ensure workers understand where asbestos might be found and what steps to take to stay safe. It is not intended to provide legal advice or answer complex questions.

  • Gary Rhyder – Gary is a Certified Occupational Hygienist specialising in occupational hygiene including asbestos with over 30 years’ experience, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) and has held leadership positions previously in the AIOH and previously an NSW WorkCover Occupational Hygienist.
  • Occupational Hygienists of Pickford and Rhyder – A consultancy among Australia’s leading Occupational Hygienists specializing in comprehensive risk assessments for workplace hazards, asbestos, airborne dusts and fibres and laboratory analysis.
