Recognising the waste industry’s leaders and innovators

The waste industry gathered at the Doltone House Parkview, Pyrmont, NSW on November 22 to honour leaders and innovators in the sector for Inside Waste’s inaugural 2018 Waste and Resource Recovery Excellence Awards.

Hosted by Inside Waste, in partnership with the Waste Management Association of Australia, and supported by major sponsors SUEZ, Arcadis and Veolia, the awards night featured 50 entries across 10 categories, all of which champions the country’s most innovative waste industry businesses, individuals and projects.

Brad Searle, sector MD – environment, waste and restoration at Arcadis, said the inaugural awards and gala dinner was a great celebration of an industry that is rising to the unprecedented challenges facing the management and recovery of waste.

“At Arcadis, we recognise it is industry and their respective leadership teams who are the drivers of change,” Searle said.

“We sponsored the Arcadis Executive of the Year Award because it is the people within this great industry who work with skill and passion to develop opportunities, to manage risk and to respond to challenge.

“There could be no better example than the inaugural winner of the Executive of the Year Award, Veolia’s recently retired MD, Doug Dean, who has been an industry leader for 27 years.

“Congratulations to Doug – and to the Inside Waste team for a great initiative and a wonderful night.”

Antony Schillaci, national sales, marketing & contract performance manager, Veolia Australia and New Zealand, said Veolia was pleased to support the inaugural Inside Waste Awards.

“It was a great evening with many individuals acknowledged for their contribution to the wider industry, including Veolia’s former CEO and managing director Doug Dean, who was recognised for his organisational impact and leadership of Veolia Australia and New Zealand for almost three decades,” Schillaci added.

According to a SUEZ spokesperson, embracing the challenges of tomorrow requires innovative and sustainable solutions that optimise management of our resources.

“SUEZ was a proud sponsor of the Inside Waste’s Waste and Resource Recovery Excellence Awards,” the spokesperson said.

“The Awards, jointly convened by Inside Waste and the Waste Management Association of Australia, champion leaders in the sector by celebrating their efforts and promoting innovative projects across Australia.

“SUEZ’s executive director for development, performance and innovation, Emmanuel Vivant, presented the awards for Outstanding Local Government in the Metro and Regional categories.

“SUEZ was also recognised as a finalist for its operational excellence in developing an innovative, new system of Plate Recognition Technology and Advanced Driver Control Station to improve efficiency in processing services at the Lucas Heights Resource Recovery Park.

“SUEZ congratulates all nominees and winners at the Inside Waste, Waste and Resource Recovery Excellence Awards for their achievements and contributions to the sector.”
