HHI carving a slice of India’s construction pie

The heavy industry-focused company completed the factory capable of producing 2500 excavators annually.Production began at the new factory in October 2008 and HHI says it expects to produce 300 18-tonne class excavator units by the end of the year, ramping up to 1000 units ranging from 7-18t by 2010.HHI says it aims to capture 15% of the Indian construction equipment market by producing 2000 excavators a year by 2012.“India is the fastest emerging market in the world,” HHI construction equipment division chief operating officer Park Kiu-hyun said.“We will increase our market share through a local market adjustment strategy and aggressive investment, despite the global downturn,” he said.“India is the second-most competitive construction equipment market, behind only China.”HHI says it plans to focus on India to continue growing its construction division and is competing against Japan and China for a slice of India’s construction equipment market.
