A sod-turning ceremony yesterday marked the start of the project, which involves the extension of the existing facility to increase the capacity of the nursing home from 30 to 98 beds. The work is due for completion in November 2009.Hansen Yuncken NSW state manager Chris Bulmer said approximately 100 staff from local trades would be employed on the project, with most subcontractors being drawn from the Tamworth region.“This is our first project in Tamworth, but we are involved in a large number of regional and aged care projects around Australia,” Bulmer said.“Some of our other aged care projects in NSW include a 238-bed facility at Castle Hill and a 70-unit facility at Camden.” Bulmer said other Hansen Yuncken projects currently underway in the region included the Orange Base Hospital, the Port Macquarie Arts Centre, and schools at Ashtonfield near Newcastle and Warnervale near Wyong. “All of our regional projects are staffed by local people with local knowledge,” Bulmer said.“We are pleased to have secured the Peel Nursing Home and be servicing Amity Group as one of our key customers.”
