Dump truck kills worker at Victorian mine

The Herald Sun newspaper reported the 17-year-old boy was hit by a dump truck shortly after 10am yesterday morning at the mine in Woodshed Gully Drive, Mount Clear. Paramedics treated the boy at the scene, but he died a short time later, according to the report.Paramedics were called to the Ballarat gold fields after the young worker was hit on the surface. WorkSafe Victoria is investigating the incident and told ConstructionIndustryNews.net’s sister publication MiningNews.net the reports were awaiting confirmation.Lihir Gold was not able to be contacted at the time of publication.This is not the first time the Ballarat mine has come under investigation for a workplace incident. It made headlines in November 2007 following a shaft collapse that trapped 27 miners underground for several hours. No injuries were reported in last year’s incident.
