Deere axes 200 jobs

The move will see Deere combine its Agricultural division and its Commercial and Consumer Equipment division (which includes commercial lawn mowers and chain saws) into a single Agriculture and Turf division.Deere said this week the changes were being made in an effort to reduce costs; however, it said the cost of the changes themselves would be approximately $US25 million ($A34.6 million).”The new operating approach has been in development since early 2008 – and is an extension of many of the successful efforts resulting from the implementation of the SVA [shareholder value added] model, in place since 2001,” Deere chairman Robert Lane said. “Customers, suppliers and dealers will find it easier to work with John Deere because of reduced organisational complexity.” The changes will be effective from May 1, 2009.
