Expansion of container types essential for CDS

B-Cycle releases report on state of battery recycling

Australia’s official government-backed battery recycling Scheme, B-cycle, has released its first performance report – Positive Charge. The Scheme has doubled the national collection rate of loose batteries and power tool batteries, recycling the equivalent of 38 million AA batteries in its first six months – enough loose batteries to wrap halfway around the world. Plastic, single use coffee cups and lids are a massive litter and waste problem in Australia, and have been for the past 30 years so must be banned, according to a spokesperson from the Boomerang Alliance of 55 environment NGOs. When disasters strike, who’s in charge of the clean-up?

According to the United Nation’s World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the number of natural disasters around the world has increased by a factor of five over the past 50 years. The organisation’s Atlas of Mortality and Economic Losses from Weather, Climate and Water Extremes (1970-2019) states there have been more than 11,000 natural disasters over that time period. More than two million people have lost their lives as a result, while there has been more than US$3.6 trillion in monetary losses. Read More
