Marshall presented the accreditation certificate to Candetti executive chairman Alex Candetti at the site of the new State Aquatic Centre and GP Plus Health Care Centre at Oaklands Park.Candetti is the design and construct contractor for the $100 million project. All head contractors on federally funded projects worth more than $6 million have to be accredited under the Building and Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme.More than 150 companies have gained accreditation since the scheme was introduced in 2006.“We are extremely proud of achieving this very important occupational health and safety accreditation,” Candetti said.“It is recognition by the federal government that Candetti’s commitment to workplace safety excellence starts from the top and carries through to every single person that works in the company, including our sub-contractors.”“It is making sure the OH&S guidelines are adhered to throughout everything we do, and by everyone we work with.”Candetti said construction at the aquatic centre had reached an important milestone with the start of installation at the aquatic centre of fourteen 15m high steel roof trusses over the pool hall covering the water polo/dive pool and the main competition pool.At the same time, more than 1500 cubic metres of concrete – the equivalent of the construction of three floors of a CBD office tower – is being poured onsite each week as work continues on the aquatic centre.Main structural work on the multi-level GP Plus Health Care Centre is now complete, with only the structural steel roof now left to construct, while construction of the associated multi-level car park is well advanced.“Construction of this exciting and long-awaited development is starting to take shape. The quality and pace in which it is being built is second to none,” Candetti said.
