Ausenco, Coffey signed up for more Pilbara work

Ausenco will immediately begin work on the stage 2 PFS, in collaboration with mining consultants Coffey Mining, and the two companies will submit the study report in June 2009.Stage 2 at Marillana, near Newman in the Pilbara, comprises a 15-25 million tonne per annum channel iron deposit and haematite ore mining operation with a mine life of up to 40 years, compared with the smaller 2Mtpa operation mooted for stage 1.Stage 1 of the Marillana project was aimed at achieving early cash flow during the development of the larger stage 2 development, but was suspended due to ongoing volatility in financial markets.“Ausenco brings a vast process technology experience, which, together with Coffey Mining’s 50 years experience as a specialist mining consulting group, provides Brockman with a strong foundation for the continuing development of the Marillana iron ore project,” Brockman managing director Wayne Richards said. While Ausenco and Coffey are completing the PFS, Brockman will focus on completing and submitting environmental surveys, finalising native title agreements, negotiating with third-party rail owners and operators, and completing a scoping study on port facilities at Port Hedland.
